I do like an olive and am still, years later, mourning the loss of Woody’s Turkish shop, with it’s huge olive counter, at the top of Stroud Green Road. Sadly Woody's was replaced with Sainsbury’s local, where the olives are pre-packed (Woody's: still on Yelp).

Fortunately, the Organic Fruit & Veg shop, just opposite (196 Stroud Green Road), sell delicious loose olives.

I particularly like the green ones with tarragon and garlic. They also stock good Kalamata and Italian nocellara.

Baseball in Finsbury Park

While strolling in Finsbury Park I made a detour to watch a bit of baseball: The London Mets vs. The Essex Arrows

It was my first baseball game so I didn’t have a clue what was going on, (and that's from a cricket fan!) but was a nice sunny day, and it's really good to see the park being used for different sports.

low-cost shiatsu

I have been going to the student clinics at the British School of Shiatsu-Do, Finsbury Park for some years, and I can highly recommend it.

The sessions are shared, usually with about four or five others. This doesn't feel intrusive however; you remain clothed (wear something loose fitting) and it is so peaceful that you don’t really notice anyone else.

The practitioners are students, but they are well supervised, and you feel in good hands. I have always had a beneficial experience.

Clinics are every fortnight or so and cost £18 for an hour. There is a break in the summer, so check times. Details on the School of Shiatsu-Do website.

my (very) small vegetable patch

I am really lucky to have a bit of outside space on my roof terrace, and am pleased that the spinach and lettuce I planted a few weeks ago are coming along well.

I have been getting the compost at Value4Money on Stroud Green Road. A huge bag cost £4.99. They also sell pots and cheap plastic cups for getting the seeds going before planting out.

I have just put in some carrots, not sure if it is too late in the growing season, but I'll keep you posted.
